The most important scientific achievements of the project leader are as follows:

1 Mediaeval and pre-modern history of Romanians. The PhD thesis (Magna Cum Laude distinction), The Moldavian Country during the reign of Voivod Gheorghe Ştefan voievod (1653–1658), was published at „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University Publishing House, Iasi, 2003, 609 pp. + 14 ill. (“A.D. Xenopol” award of the Romanian Academy). Through this volume, I have contributed significantly to the knowledge related to the general history of the Romanian Principalities in the middle of the 17th century, by valorising many new documents within the archives on Mount Athos and within the Romanian public archives. I have also introduced – in the Romanian scientific circuit – a great number of documents published by the Hungarian, Ukrainian, and Polish historians, but that the Romanian historiography had not used. The Romanian and foreign historians studying the 17th century history acknowledged the importance of these researches. This is why I was included in a collective volume published in Hungary, with the following study: Gheorghe Ştefan moldvai vajda és II. Rákóczi György erdélyi fejedelem kapcsolata, in Szerencsének elegyes forgása. II. Rákóczi György és kora, edited by Kárman Gábor and Szabó András Péter, L’Harmattan Publishing House, Budapest, 2009, p. 61–96). I also mention the – over – 40 citations in the volume of Dariusz Milewski, Rywalizacja polska-kozacka o Mołdawie w dobie powstania Bohdana Chmilenickiego (1648-1653), Inforteditions, Zabrze, 2011, passim, as well as other citations of the Romanian and foreign historians.

2 History of the Orthodox Church in the Romanian Principalities. In this sense, I have researched the relations of the Romanian Principalities with Mount Athos, as well as with the churches and monasteries in the entire Orthodox space. I have also published several studies on the ecclesiastic rapports with the Epirus, with Serbia, Bulgaria, and Ukraine. I have gathered a part of these studies in the B.3.1. author volume, as well as in B.3.5. Moreover, as expression of these scientific preoccupations, I have edited the B.3.4. volume of studies and the volume Stefan cel Mare la cinci secole de la moartea sa [Stephen the Great – Five Centuries since His Death], under the aegis of the Romanian Academy, “A.D. Xenopol” Institute of History, Iaşi, 456 pp. (in collaboration with Silviu Văcaru), where several important studies on the Romanians’ relations with Mount Athos were included.

The project leader collaborated to editing the first volumes of documents within the archives of Athonite monasteries, after an interval of almost six decades (1937, the volume elaborated by Grigore Nandris, Documente romanesti in limba slava din manastirile Muntelui Athos [Romanian Documents in Slavonian within the Monasteries on Mount Athos]). The first volume, B3.3., appeared in 2005 (the second volume of Romanian documents within the archive of the Xeropotamou monastery is in print, at the same publishing house), and the second volume, B.3.2., appeared in 2011. I have collaborated to the volume Ρουμανικά έγγραφα του Αγίου Oρους. Αρχείο Ιεράς Μονhς Αγίου Παυλου [Romanian Documents of the Holy Mountain. The Archives of Protaton], Athens, 2002, 600 p., with Florin Marinescu, Ştefan S. Gorovei, and Maria Magdalena Székely. There are also two catalogues of documents ready for print in collaboration with Florin Marinescu, and Dumitru Nastase; they will be published in Greece. After studying these new documents, the project leader made a series of important scientific discoveries, which led to a better knowledge of the Romanian mediaeval and pre-modern history, as well as of the relations between the Romanian Principalities and Mount Athos. Besides the abovementioned titles, I also underline the following: B.3.6, B.3.7, B.3.8., and B.3.9., as well as: „Pentru că iaste faptă din oasele lui, cum o ştie ţara toată”. Contribuţii privitoare la descendenţa lui Mihai Viteazul [“Because this is flesh from his flesh, as the entire country knows”. Contributions Regarding the Descent of Michael the Brave], in “Studii şi Materiale de Istorie Medie”, XXIX, 2011, p. 141–161; Noi informaţii despre mănăstirea Izvorani (judeţul Buzău) şi despre mitropolitul Ţării Româneşti, Luca de Cipru [New Information on the Izvorani Monastery (Bacau County) and on the Metropolitan of Wallachia, Luca of Cyprus], in “Revista Istorică”, XXI, no. 3–4, 2010, p. 251–270; O călătorie la Muntele Athos în căutarea „urmelor” româneşti [A journey at Mount Athos in the Search of “Romanian Traces”], in “Anuarul Institutului de Istorie «A.D. Episcopiei Dunării de Jos, Galaţi, 2005, p. 110–151 (in collaboration with Florin Marinescu).

I have also published many Slavonian documents within the archives of monasteries on Mount Athos; they have enriched significantly the knowledge on the history of Romanians in the 15th–16th centuries. I refer to the following: Un grup de documente slavo-române din perioada 1524-1550 [A Group of Slavo–Romanian Documents in the Period 1524–1550], in “Revista Istorică”, XXII, new series, no. 5–6, 2011, p. 145–166; Câteva documente de la Neagoe Basarab [Some Documents since Neagoe Basarab’s Reign], in “Studii şi Materiale de Istorie Medie”, XXVIII, 2010, p. 291–312; Patru documente inedite din secolul al XVlea privitoare la istoria Ţării Româneşti [Four New Documents since the 15th Century Regarding the History of Walachia], in “Studii şi Materiale de Istorie Medie”, XXVI, 2008, p. 290–305; Câteva documente din prima jumătate a veacului al XVII-lea păstrate în arhiva Mănăstirii Xenofon de la Muntele Athos [Some Documents since the First Half of the 17th Century, Conserved in the Archive of the Monastery of Xenophon on Mount Athos], in “Revista Arhivelor”, 1–2, 2008, p. 123–149; Noi documente de la Ştefan cel Mare şi de la înaintaşii săi [New Documents since Stephen the Great and His Predecessors], in “Analele Putnei”, IV, 2008, no. 1, p. 173–197 (in collaboration with Florin Marinescu); Documente de la Ieremia Movilă voievod din arhiva Mănăstirii Vatoped de la Muntele Athos [Documents since Prince Ieremia Movila, in the Archive of the Monastery of Vatopedi on Mount Athos], in the volume Movileştii. 3 History of the Catholic Church in Moldavia. The project leader edited the chapters concerning the mediaeval and modern history of the Catholic communities within the localities of Gherăesti, Liuzi-Călugăra, Mărgineni (present in the KVK catalogue), and Adjudeni. At the same time, I am part of a project regarding the publication of the documentary fund belonging to the Roman-Catholic Bishopric of Iaşi (with Silviu Văcaru);

4 Slavic language and Slavo-Romanian palaeography, Romanian–Cyrillic palaeography. The project leader has been coordinating the national collection of internal mediaeval sources, Documenta Romaniae Historica, series A, Moldavia, within the “A.D. Xenopol” Institute of History in Iasi. In this quality, I published, so far, two volumes of documents: B.3.1.10 and vol. XXVII (1643-1644), in collaboration with Catalina Chelcu, Marius Chelcu, Silviu Vacaru, Nistor Ciocan, and Dimitrie Ciurea, Romanian Academy Publishing House, Bucharest, 2005, 743 p. In addition, volume IX (1593–1598) is ready for publication, at the Romanian Academy Publishing House. These volumes included, for the first time in the Romanian historiography, documents within the archives on Mount Athos.

5 Genealogy, heraldry, and sigillography. These scientific preoccupations are very important for the processing of the new documentary material within the archives kept in the monasteries on Mount Athos. So far, by using these documents, the project leader published several studies on genealogy and sigillography: Un sigiliu, o stemă, un ctitor şi o ctitorie (mănăstirea Sfântul Sava din Iaşi) [A Seal, an Emblem, a Founder, and a Monastery (the St Sava Monastery in Iasi)], in Putna, ctitorii ei şi lumea lor, Oscar Print Publishing House, Bucharest, 2011, p. 145–172; Note de sigilografie eclesiastică moldovenească în Moldova [Notes on the Moldavian Ecclesiastic Sigillography in Moldavia], in “Herb. Revista română de heraldică”, I (VI), no. 1–2, 1999 (issued in 2005), p. 171–182 (+ illustrations); Observaţii asupra unor sigilii medievale moldoveneşti (I) [Observations on Moldavian Mediaeval Seals], in “Arhiva Genealogică”, IV (IX), Iaşi, 1997, no. 1-2, p. 255–266.

6 Social history. I am the editor in charge with “Revista de Istorie Socială” [“Social History Journal”], within the Polirom Publishing House, Iaşi. This allowed me to publish several important studies on social history: Sugestii genealogice pentru o cercetare a începuturilor burgheziei române [Genealogical Suggestions for a Research on the Beginnings of the Romanian Bourgeoisie], in “Revista de Istorie Socială”, IV-VII, 1999–2002, Iaşi, 2004 (issued in 2005), p. 26–37; Două catastife ale Cantacuzinilor moldoveni din veacul al XVII-lea [Two Registers of the Moldavian Cantacuzinos during the 17th Century], in “Revista de Istorie Socială”, IV–VII, 1999–2002, Iaşi, 2004 (issued in 2005), p. 184–195; Aspecte din viaţa necunoscută a Sultanei, fiica lui Mircea Ciobanul [Aspects within the Unknown life of Sultana, the Daughter of Mircea Ciobanul], in “Revista de Istorie Socială”, VIII–IX, 2003–2004 (issued in 2007), p. 69–81; Mitropolitul Iacov Putneanul şi “necazul de obşte” al Moldovei [The Metropolitan Iacov Putneanul and the “Community Sorrow” of Moldavia], in “Analele Putnei”, V, 2009, no. 1, p. 219–235; Inventarul averii lui Petru vodă Şchiopul [Inventory of the Fortune Belonging to Prince Petru Schiopul], in “Revista de Istorie Socială”, XIII–XV, 2008–2010, Polirom Publishing House, 443–462.
